With Sergio Pérez’s contract extension, Red Bull’s line-up is all set. For Carlos Sainz, this means one less option for 2025. The Spaniard has yet to sign for the upcoming season, and the seats are starting to fill up. According to the latest rumors, Sainz has two realistic options left – Williams or Audi.
Thanks to the sensational transfer of Lewis Hamilton, Carlos Sainz found himself without a team in early February. 2024 is his last season with Ferrari. Sainz has proven time and again that he belongs to the absolute top of Formula 1. Yet, a new contract is still pending – while transfer news is pouring in, the Spaniard is still empty-handed.
Carlos Sainz’s Future in Formula 1: Williams or Audi?
According to Formula 1 commentator David Croft, there are currently two realistic options left for Carlos Sainz – both Williams and Sauber (soon to be Audi) are interested in offering him a contract. The latter has been mentioned for some time as a potential destination for the ‘smooth operator’. “I have spoken with Sainz’s team,” said Croft on the Sky Sports F1 podcast. “He has to choose between Williams and Audi.”
Williams or Audi?
If Croft were in Sainz’s shoes, he would choose Williams. “Audi is a brand-new project that has never had success in Formula 1,” he explained. “I would go for Williams – it has proven itself in the past.” The commentator trusts that team boss James Vowles will get the British racing team back on track. “He has already managed to convince Alex Albon, he should be able to do the same with Sainz.”
Of course, a third option is Mercedes – Sainz could always swap places with Hamilton. However, according to Sky Sports experts, Andrea Kimi Antonelli is the favorite for the Germans. The young Italian made his debut in Formula 2 this year and is preparing for the premier class through special test days.
