Max Verstappen responded coolly to the outcome of the Austrian Grand Prix. A collision with Lando Norris in the final stages spoiled the race for both. “This is unfortunate, you don’t want this,” admitted the three-time world champion from Red Bull, who eventually finished fifth and thus still retained some championship points from the race.
Verstappen did not want to make a quick judgment about the incident in the final stages of the race. “I will have to review the footage first. We also hit each other at a strange angle, causing both of us to puncture. We maneuvered ourselves into this position, that needs to be better in the future.”
Verstappen and Norris have been friends for many years. This will not change immediately due to this incident. “We will talk about this, but not right away. We need to cool down first,” said Verstappen.
The stewards imposed a ten-second time penalty on Verstappen for his part in the crash. He clearly disagreed with this, as was immediately apparent from his first reaction over the radio. “That’s ridiculous. You can try it on either side of me. What am I supposed to do?!”
