Charles Leclerc candidly discusses the current state of affairs within his team. The Monegasque reveals that Ferrari has sacrificed several races following the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix to address issues with the SF-24. Unfortunately for Leclerc, the entire process took longer than he had hoped.
Ferrari has been struggling with issues on the SF-24 since the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, which is also the home race for the Scuderia. The new floor that the team introduced at that time caused bouncing when the car was driven at high speeds. Ferrari hit a slump after the Monaco Grand Prix, but according to Leclerc, it was necessary for Ferrari to sacrifice four races.
“It’s very similar to the situation we found ourselves in last year, in 2023, in Zandvoort and Monza,” the Monegasque explains in the Beyond The Grid podcast. “When we sacrificed a little bit to maximize the weekend in Zandvoort and Monza to understand it (the problems) and then to make a big step forward. That’s what we’ve experienced again.”
More Sacrificed Races Than Desired
There is one significant difference between the two seasons for Ferrari: the Scuderia had to sacrifice even more races this year. “Unfortunately, it turned out to be four races instead of two, which is longer than I had wished,” admits Leclerc. “But it has been incredibly useful for the entire team to understand exactly what problem we were dealing with.”
