George Russell is confident that Mercedes will be back in the title race by 2025. The Mercedes driver is hopeful that his team’s upward trajectory will continue into the next season. Russell is eagerly anticipating the second half of the season, as McLaren, Ferrari, and his own team are once again leading the pack.

Since the introduction of the new regulations in 2022, Mercedes had not been competing for victories. However, the Brackley-based team has turned things around in the last few races. Mercedes claimed victory in three of the last four races before the summer break. This has George Russell looking forward to the second half of the season with great anticipation.

George Russell’s Optimism for Mercedes’ Future

“Absolutely,” Russell told PlanetF1 when asked if the second half of 2024 could help Mercedes compete for the title in 2025. “I think it’s been a tough few years for all of us to get the car to a place where we can consistently fight for victories. But I’m so motivated, I’m really looking forward to the second half of the season, which should ultimately lead into 2025.”

‘It’s Going to Be Great’

Not only is there an upward trend at Mercedes, but Red Bull is also not as dominant as it has been in the past two years. The battle at the front of the Formula 1 field is therefore currently between four top teams. “Looking at the competition now, there’s no reason why we can’t fight,” Russell also says. “And if the season had started in Montreal, the championship standings would look very different.”

Although 2024 still has ten races left, the Mercedes driver is already very excited about the next season. “It’s going to be great. I think there’s a lot of motivation from all the other teams to get back to the front, from McLaren, from Ferrari, from us,” says Russell. “It certainly won’t be easy and hopefully we’ll see a good fight that continues into next year.”
