Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has made it clear: there will be no additional Grand Prix in the US. Despite the sport’s recent visit to the US patent office to secure the trademarks ‘Chicago Grand Prix’ and ‘Grand Prix of Chicago’, Domenicali insists there are no plans to organize a fourth race in the United States.
Since Formula 1 was acquired by American entertainment giant Liberty Media, the sport has been on the rise. Particularly in the United States, the premier class is gaining popularity, largely due to the Netflix series Drive to Survive. With the growing interest in Formula 1, there has also been an increased demand for Grand Prix in the US. The Circuit of the Americas in Texas has been the setting for the American GP since 2012, and in the past two years, the Miami GP and the Las Vegas GP have been added.
Recently, Formula 1 also secured the trademarks ‘Chicago Grand Prix’ and ‘Grand Prix of Chicago’. Can American fans look forward to a fourth race on home soil? ‘No’, says CEO Stefano Domenicali. In a conversation with Spanish Mundo Deportivo, he explained that three races are sufficient. “There will be no extra race in the United States,” said the Italian. “All rumors are incorrect, let that be clear. Three races in America are perfect.”
