Andrea Stella, the team boss of McLaren, earlier this week indicated that Oscar Piastri is ready to support his teammate Lando Norris if necessary. Today, Piastri confirmed his willingness. Piastri stated that he is ready to assist Norris and will do whatever it takes.
Willingness to Help
Piastri has already expressed his willingness to help in recent races, if the team were to ask for it. “It’s never easy for a driver to accept such requests, but the bigger picture is more important than just myself. My goal is to achieve the best results and score many points. If there’s a way to help Norris score points, I will do it.”
Differences with Monza
“The overtaking manoeuvre in Monza was ideal for me because it put me in a winning position,” Piastri explained. When asked why Norris was surprised in Monza, Piastri indicated that they were free to race each other. “The outcome of my overtaking manoeuvre was not ideal for Norris, but at that time we were free to race each other.”
According to the Australian, some things will be approached differently from now on, but there is still some room for flexibility. There also needs to be a discussion within the team about how they will respond to certain situations. “It would not be an ideal situation for the team if I, even with a lead of 10 seconds, have to hold back. If the team asks me to do that, I will comply. Ultimately, we want to avoid these kinds of situations as much as possible. We all agree that if one driver performs better throughout the weekend, that should be rewarded,” Piastri said.
