Oscar Piastri is not one to settle for a secondary role, as he demonstrated with a stellar victory in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Australian fought valiantly, overtaking Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and defending his position with aplomb. This earned him the second Formula 1 victory of his career.
“I tried to overtake Leclerc right from the start, but I didn’t have enough speed,” Piastri reflected on his victory. “After the pit stop, we were close, and I felt the car had a lot of grip. I knew I had to make my move then. If I didn’t overtake Leclerc quickly, it would become difficult. I managed to do it and then held on.”
It wasn’t easy, he admitted. “There are no relaxed laps in Baku, it was hard work. All in all, this is one of the best races of my career.”
