Max Verstappen expressed his disappointment after a lackluster performance at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Dutch driver’s RB20 lacked speed, allowing Lando Norris, who started from P15, to overtake him in the final stages of the race.
Verstappen’s Struggles
“I stood no chance,” Verstappen admitted in a conversation with Viaplay, discussing the speed difference with his closest competitor in the title race. Norris, who earned an extra point for the fastest lap, closed the gap on Verstappen by three points. Verstappen’s lead in the championship now stands at 59 points, with seven Grand Prix and three sprint races remaining.
Looking Ahead to Singapore
The next race is already scheduled for the coming weekend in Singapore. Verstappen anticipates another tough race for Red Bull but hopes that the team and he can learn from the developments in Baku. “The track in Singapore is also very bumpy. So, we need to ensure we set up the car better. We tried some things in Baku, but unfortunately, they didn’t work out.”
Optimism Despite Setbacks
Despite the disappointing weekend, Verstappen remains optimistic. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “It was a bad weekend for me, but in the end, we didn’t lose many points in the championship. That’s positive, especially since I know we can do much better.”
