Just a few hours after Red Bull announced the cancellation of their special livery for the Singapore GP, Visa RB has unveiled a brand new color scheme. The VCARB 01, driven by Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda, will sport a denim look for the upcoming race weekend, complete with seams and zippers. It’s a Grand Prix in jeans!
Red Bull’s Desperation? Special Liveries Cancelled for Weight Saving
In collaboration with clothing sponsor HUGO, Visa RB launched a new livery for the Singapore GP on Wednesday. The VCARB 01 is dressed in jeans for the occasion, as a nod to the German fashion house. “There are many collaborations between clothing brands and Formula 1 teams, but this is the first time these two worlds have come so close together,” commented Daniel Ricciardo. “Hopefully, there will be more liveries inspired by fashion in the future.”
Mercedes Surprises with Green Livery in Singapore
“Fashion is really my passion, so it’s very cool to see such a unique collaboration on the track,” added Yuki Tsunoda. According to Visa RB, this is the first time in thirty years that a Formula 1 team has introduced such a livery. In the nineties, clothing brand Benetton was a prominent sponsor in Formula 1, and striking designs were often applied to the cars.
A Snub to Red Bull
‘Big brother’ Red Bull was actually supposed to come to Singapore with a special livery. In honor of its twentieth anniversary, the team was planning to race three times with a fan’s design on the car. The RB20 was already given a new look at Silverstone, and the team was also supposed to introduce a new livery in Singapore and Austin. However, due to the lack of performance in recent Grands Prix, Red Bull is playing it safe. With an eye on weight saving, the car will not receive a new coat of paint.
