Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko, isn’t overly concerned about the team’s struggle for victory. Following the Baku Grand Prix, the Austrians have slipped to second place in the constructors’ championship. Max Verstappen also faces a challenge in his quest for a fourth championship. However, Marko sees a silver lining in the competition, stating, “Winning everything was no longer fun.”

“Like all other teams, we want to win every race,” Helmut Marko said in the run-up to the Singapore Grand Prix. In 2023, Red Bull nearly managed to sweep all the prizes, if not for Carlos Sainz’s victory at Marina Bay. This season, Max Verstappen’s team has had a tougher time, with Red Bull winning ‘only’ seven of the past seventeen races. This certainly makes the championship a lot more exciting.

Red Bull’s Recent Performance Decline Explained

“Winning everything was no longer fun,” joked Helmut Marko. “It makes you a lot less emotional. And in the end, we are also just athletes; we want our challengers to have just as much chance of winning.” Since the GP in Barcelona, those challengers have won all the races. According to the 81-year-old Austrian, Red Bull now has an explanation for the recent lack of performance.

The Sensitivity of Modern Cars

“This generation of cars is so sensitive; one wrong step can dramatically worsen the car,” he explained. “That’s what happened at Ferrari, at Aston Martin – and it’s happening to us now. We can’t be happy about that. But fortunately, we have recognized the mistake and are working to correct it.”
