Valtteri Bottas, a prominent figure in the racing world since 2013, is yet to secure a contract for the upcoming season. The eccentric Finnish driver’s future hangs in the balance, with the possibility of bidding farewell next year. His only potential lifeline lies with Sauber, but the team seems more interested in fresh talent. Despite this, Bottas remains confident in his abilities and what he can bring to the table.
During a press conference leading up to the Singapore Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas was questioned about his future in Formula 1. Is there ongoing negotiation with Sauber for a new contract? “I just need to ensure the right people in the paddock see what I have to offer,” Bottas explained. “Fortunately, they can see my performance within the team every week. That’s the most important thing.”
Better Than Ever
The ten-time race winner still believes in his capabilities. Since his move from Mercedes in 2022, he may not have been able to race in the forefront, but the 35-year-old driver is convinced that he is still growing. “I’m just as good as when I was racing with Mercedes – I think even better,” Valtteri Bottas explained. “The more experience I gain, the more consistent and better I become. Unfortunately, you can’t always show that when you’re at the back.”
Discussions are reportedly ongoing between Bottas’s team and Sauber’s management. However, in recent weeks, the focus has been on rising talents like Gabriel Bortoleto and Franco Colapinto. With Audi’s takeover in view, the team would prefer to invest in the next generation of drivers.
