Oscar Piastri expressed satisfaction with his third-place finish at the Singapore Grand Prix. The Australian started the race in fifth position but managed to overtake George Russell and Lewis Hamilton to secure his spot. Piastri believes that given the conditions of the heated race in the streets of Singapore, P3 was the best he could achieve.

Despite a poor start, Piastri quickly climbed back to fifth place. Thanks to the early pit stops of his competitors, he soon found himself in a podium position. There was a brief period when he fell back in the Formula 1 field due to his later pit stop, but he quickly overtook Lewis Hamilton and George Russell again. The McLaren driver finished third.

“It was hot,” the Australian said immediately after the race. “It was a good race. A good recovery from yesterday’s qualification. To be able to drive back to the podium is a good result. We had a fast car and a good strategy to get past Mercedes.”

Playing it Safe

During the race, teammate Norris reported over the radio that he had sustained damage from lightly hitting the wall. This led to Piastri being asked if he had gone off the track during the race. “No, I stayed on the road this time,” said Piastri. “I don’t think I hit anything. I was a bit close to George (Russell) in turn 1. There was no more than third place. I had a huge gap to bridge, so I didn’t want to take too much risk. The mechanics don’t have to replace too many parts for the next race.”
