Former world champion and Formula 1 analyst, Nico Rosberg, has not missed the latest spat between Christian Horner and Toto Wolff. The two team bosses, rivals from the outset, clashed again after the Singapore Grand Prix. Horner suggested that Mercedes driver George Russell could be a future option for Red Bull, a clear jab, according to Rosberg.

Russell has not yet signed a new contract for after 2025. Horner emphasized that the Englishman could be a significant option for Red Bull in the future. “It would be foolish not to consider him,” said the team boss. “Horner is trying to provoke Toto (Wolff),” Nico Rosberg responded in a Sky Sports podcast. “He wants to ramp up the pressure within Mercedes – after all, George (Russell) doesn’t have a contract yet.”

Was it just a jab, or does Red Bull have serious interest in the 26-year-old driver? “Nothing is stopping Christian (Horner) from taking the initiative and snatching Russell away with a contract,” Rosberg explained. “I don’t know if he would be interested in Red Bull, but such a remark certainly increases the pressure on Mercedes.”

Of course, they’re not averse to stirring the pot at Mercedes either. Toto Wolff has long courted Christian Horner’s protege, Max Verstappen, before he ultimately chose a future with Andrea Kimi Antonelli. However, Wolff stressed that he does not rule out more ‘flirting’ with the three-time world champion in the future.
