Mick Schumacher, the young racing driver who served two years with Haas between 2021 and 2022, still harbors hopes of making a comeback in Formula 1. Despite missing out on a contract with Alpine, Schumacher’s last remaining option appears to be a seat with Sauber. However, Helmut Marko suggests that Schumacher might be better off trying his luck in other racing classes.

“I believe that Sauber will definitely not have a winning car next year,” Helmut Marko shared with German media outlet RTL. “This means there would be no pressure on the team or the driver they eventually contract. Mick Schumacher could then measure up well against Nico Hülkenberg.” The seasoned German driver already has a multi-year contract with Sauber. “If you then notice that Schumacher is underperforming, you can always make a change in 2026.”

Valtteri Bottas Likely to Stay in Hinwil for Another Year

For now, it appears that Valtteri Bottas will remain in Hinwil for another year. In addition, Sauber has shown significant interest in Formula 2 driver Gabriel Bortoleto. Meanwhile, Williams team boss James Vowles is also recommending Franco Colapinto to the Swiss racing team. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko is somewhat surprised that Bottas is still in the running for a new contract. “I find that truly incomprehensible,” says the Red Bull advisor.

‘Focus on Endurance Races’

One thing Marko is certain of: “If Schumacher doesn’t get that seat, he should give up his Formula 1 dreams. He should focus on endurance races,” advises the Austrian. “He’s very successful there. If he stays in motorsport, he should find something he enjoys, but also has a chance of winning.”

After two disappointing seasons at Haas, Mick Schumacher took on the role of test and reserve driver at Mercedes. This year, he is also participating in the WEC with Alpine’s endurance team. The 25-year-old driver hoped to move up to the French Formula 1 team in 2025, but in August, the team opted for a partnership with Australian Jack Doohan.
