Adrian Newey, the renowned British designer, will not be completely severing ties with Red Bull in 2025. Despite embarking on a new journey with Aston Martin, Newey reveals he will remain involved in Red Bull’s hypercar project, the RB17. He is eagerly looking forward to the new challenges that await him at Aston Martin.
In May, Red Bull announced that Adrian Newey, after nearly a decade of loyal service, would be leaving the Austrian racing team. The British designer revealed in September that he would be moving to Aston Martin, officially joining the British racing team on March 1, 2025 (UTC). However, during the High Performance podcast, Newey shared that he would not be completely parting ways with Red Bull, as he would continue to contribute to the RB17 project.
“I have actually been out of the Red Bull Formula 1 team since after Suzuka,” explains the 65-year-old Newey. “But I have still been working hard on the RB17 race car, which has essentially been a kind of passion project. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, as it’s something a bit different from Formula 1.”

Unveiling of Newey’s Groundbreaking Hypercar
Newey’s ‘groundbreaking’ hypercar was first presented last July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Although the Brit is about to say goodbye to Red Bull, he is still busy with the so-called Formula 1 car for the average man.
“That will continue until March 1st. After that, I will still be involved, but not from the factory anymore,” reveals the top designer. “It will be more talking to the guys via video conferences or emails. And when the car starts testing on the track, which will be next summer, I will attend the circuit tests.”
New Challenge
Despite Newey enjoying his time with the Red Bull project, the Brit does not regret his move to Max Verstappen. The designer says he was ready for a new challenge. “I started to get the feeling that we (Red Bull) were getting a bit rusty,” Newey admits. “I think the guys also felt that they had to show that they could do it alone. So I thought: ‘Okay, let’s give them the chance and give myself a new challenge’.”
