Max Verstappen has once again stirred up speculation about his future in Formula 1, stating that his next move will also be his last. However, the Dutch driver is keeping all options open, including extending his current contract.
Looking Towards the Future
Throughout the season, more and more rumors have surfaced about Verstappen’s future in the sport. In addition to speculation about a possible departure from Red Bull, a complete exit from Formula 1 is also mentioned as an option. Mercedes is often mentioned as a possible next step for the three-time world champion. However, Toto Wolff has tried to temper these rumors. Furthermore, Adrian Newey’s departure to Aston Martin has sparked new speculation. Some sources suggest that Aston Martin might be interested in bringing Verstappen on board.
Yet, Verstappen remains calm amidst all the speculation. “My next step, if there is one, will be my last,” he explained in an interview with Sky Italia. “But that could also mean that I extend my current contract. At this moment, everything is still open.”
Verstappen Remains Focused on the Present
There have been rumors that Max Verstappen might be able to terminate his contract earlier than 2028, but the Dutchman has not provided any clarification about potential escape clauses. When asked if he could leave earlier, he simply responded with: “Maybe, maybe not.”
Despite the many questions about his long-term plans, the Red Bull driver remains focused on the present and improving his performance this season. “It’s not a topic I’m dealing with right now. There’s still so much I want to do better this year and the future is still far away. It’s not a priority right now.”
Stability Above All
While some drivers, like Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo, are known for switching between teams, Verstappen does not seem to want to follow the same path. He places great value on the stability and familiarity that Red Bull offers him. “I’ve been part of this team for a long time. Every driver wants to win, that’s clear. But it’s easy to switch teams, and that’s not what I want,” he said. “I don’t want my career to be characterized by five different teams. I want to build a stable and long-term relationship with the team, belong somewhere. That’s more important to me,” Verstappen added.
