The Austrian Grand Prix feels like a distant memory now. George Russell was handed the victory after a fierce battle between rivals Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Norris, finally equipped with a competitive car, gave his Dutch competitor a run for his money. Although Norris didn’t cross the finish line, he looks back on the clash in Spielberg with satisfaction. “I won that race,” he proudly stated.
Recalling the Intense Race
After two victories by Max Verstappen, Lando Norris was eager for a new showdown during the race weekend in Austria. During the sprint race, he had to settle behind the Dutchman, and he also didn’t get further than P2 in the qualification. In the race, he was able to challenge his Red Bull competitor for the win, but the attack ended in disappointment. After several overtaking attempts, the cars collided, and Norris had to end his race. Verstappen missed the podium and settled for fourth place.
Norris Reflects on the Incident
The 24-year-old Brit was asked to reflect on the incident. Now that he only has to make up fifty-two points on Verstappen, the weekend in Spielberg could still prove costly. “Max (Verstappen) is probably the toughest man to race against,” Norris said about the clash. “In these kinds of situations, no one is as alert as he is – he knows exactly where to place the car. That’s because he’s been in this position for four or five years. For me, it’s all still quite new.”
Norris emphasized that he learned a lot from this collision with the three-time world champion. He now looks back positively on the weekend in Austria. “Of course, it didn’t go as I wanted,” he said. “But I still feel like I won that race. I showed him that I can challenge him on the track, even though he had the upper hand that day.”
Lando Norris’ rear tire didn’t survive the clash with Verstappen – the Brit dragged his car back to the pit lane and had to give up his race.
