Lewis Hamilton’s Historic Move to Ferrari in 2025: A New Challenge or a Publicity Stunt?

In 2025, Lewis Hamilton makes a historic move to Ferrari after twelve seasons with Mercedes. This shift to Maranello presents a new challenge for him. Will this union with Ferrari earn him the coveted eighth title, or is it merely a grand publicity stunt? Former Ferrari team boss, Mattia Binotto, is certain about one thing: “I would never have signed Hamilton.”

Binotto’s Take on Hamilton’s Transfer

Mattia Binotto, who currently holds a top position at Sauber, was recently asked about Hamilton’s transfer. Binotto was the team boss at Ferrari from 2019 to 2022. He was replaced by Frenchman Fred Vasseur, who came from Sauber, in the run-up to the 2023 season. Would his Italian predecessor have given the 39-year-old Hamilton a chance?

“No, I would never have signed Hamilton,” Binotto told Corriere della Sera. “Of course, he is doing well to come to Ferrari, and I respect his decision.” The 54-year-old engineer believes that his former employer is undermining the trust of Charles Leclerc by bringing Hamilton to Maranello. After all, the Monegasque has been the main man at Ferrari for years. “The team should have focused on other drivers,” Binotto explained. “Leclerc is the great talent, I think Ferrari should focus on him.”

Impact on Charles Leclerc

Binotto believes that the arrival of Hamilton could potentially harm the confidence of Charles Leclerc, who has been the leading figure within Ferrari for several years. He suggests that the team should have concentrated on other drivers, emphasizing that Leclerc is a significant talent that Ferrari should focus on.
