Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has only two races left with his familiar team, Mercedes. After this season, his twelve-year collaboration comes to an end as the Brit swaps Brackley for Maranello and George Russell for Charles Leclerc. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko is still uncertain about the new Ferrari duo. Will it be a ‘harmonious’ collaboration or will they cause chaos?
After a disastrous GP in São Paulo, Lewis Hamilton was able to smile again during the race weekend in Las Vegas. The British veteran crossed the finish line after George Russell, completing a one-two for Mercedes. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko – who celebrated the fourth title for Max Verstappen – expressed concern about the speed of the German racing team. The fact that Hamilton is moving to Ferrari next year does not reassure him either.
Leclerc versus Hamilton: A Potential Rivalry?
“Mercedes just needs to become more consistent,” responded Helmut Marko to Austrian media outlet OE24. The 81-year-old from Graz is primarily hoping that the one-two finish in Las Vegas is not a harbinger of the upcoming season. “Of course, we were dealing with special circumstances this weekend due to the low temperatures,” he emphasized. “Therefore, we have yet to see if Mercedes can also perform in the last two races. To be honest, I don’t expect that.” Marko also wishes reigning champion Max Verstappen at least one more victory in 2024. “Let’s hope we can still win one race.”
The Red Bull advisor was not surprised that Russell finished ahead of his teammate in Las Vegas. “Russell has been more dominant than Hamilton all year,” Marko explained. “However, I still think that Ferrari will have the stronger line-up next year. That being said, I am curious to see if that will be a very harmonious affair.” Charles Leclerc showed during the GP of Las Vegas that he can be fiercely competitive. After Carlos Sainz overtook him and knocked him off the podium, he gave Ferrari a piece of his mind.
