The Formula 1 will not return to Zandvoort after 2026, it was announced on Wednesday morning. In two years’ time, there will be a ‘definitive’ end to the Dutch Grand Prix. Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed his gratitude for the Grand Prix on Dutch soil and the hard work of the organization over the past years.
“I want to thank the organization in Zandvoort for all their hard work,” Domenicali said. “They have raised the bar for European Grands Prix in terms of spectacle and entertainment.” Foreign promoters often looked to the Dutch race as a source of inspiration in the field of amusement and fan experience. Moreover, the event was previously honored at the F1 Promoter Awards. The organization behind the Dutch GP in Zandvoort was named the best and most sustainable promoter of the year in 2023.
“All parties have worked together positively to find a solution to extend the race,” Domenicali continued. “We respect the promoter’s decision to end the race in 2026. I want to thank the entire team and the municipality of Zandvoort, who have been fantastic partners of Formula 1.” Previously, there was a principle agreement with the FOM to rotate the Dutch GP with three other races on the calendar. Upon closer inspection, however, the conditions turned out not to be interesting enough for the organization.
