After leaving Williams in Formula 1, Logan Sargeant has found a new challenge in endurance racing. The American driver will be part of the LMP2 team of Genesis and IDEC Sport in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) in 2025. With this, Sargeant takes a significant step towards a possible future in the world of Hypercars.
A Fresh Start
Sargeant is preparing for a new chapter. In 2024, he lost his place in Formula 1 after a disappointing period of a year and a half at Williams. The 23-year-old American will drive alongside W Series champion Jamie Chadwick and French talent Mathys Jaubert for Genesis, which will be active in the ELMS for the first time. Genesis’s LMP2 program is a preparation for their Hypercar debut in 2026. The team has announced that it will participate in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans with two cars. A year later, the brand will also add the IMSA SportsCar Championship to its program.
Returning to Familiar Territory
For Sargeant, this step means a return to familiar territory. In 2021, he already raced two races in the ELMS, where he finished fourth at the Red Bull Ring and seventh in Monza. Although a possible switch to IndyCar did not materialize, endurance racing offers him a new opportunity to revive his career. His participation in the ELMS could be a stepping stone to a full-time Hypercar seat from 2026 onwards.
Genesis Makes Big Moves with Hypercar Project
Sargeant’s arrival is just one part of the ambitious plans at Genesis. The brand presented details this week about the Genesis Magma Racing program, which will start in 2026 with the GMR-001 Hypercar. To gain experience and get the team operationally ready, Genesis is working together with IDEC Sport, an established name in sports car racing.
