Carlos Sainz advocates for fewer races on the Formula 1 calendar. The Spaniard, if he had his way, would set the maximum number of Grands Prix at twenty per season, four less than the current number. “And then six to eight of those in Europe.”
The Ferrari driver shared his vision for the calendar ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Sainz did so in response to the news that the Dutch GP in Zandvoort will disappear after 2026. “I don’t know the exact reasons, but it’s a shame. It would be nice to find a way to keep such races on the calendar.”
Sainz continues: “In my ideal world, there are twenty Grands Prix per season, with six to eight of those in Europe. The trend is that more and more races are taking place outside Europe, but that is the continent where the sport originates from. We must not forget that. Perhaps multiple European races could rotate, if that is necessary to keep them on the calendar.
