The GP of China will remain on the calendar until 2030, as announced by Formula 1 on Friday. The Shanghai International Circuit returned to the calendar this season after a five-year absence and, thanks in part to Guanyu Zhou, the first Chinese Formula 1 driver, was a great success. Max Verstappen won both the sprint and the main race this year.
The Shanghai International Circuit is popular among both drivers and fans. The track offers a unique challenge due to its tight corners and high g-forces. Moreover, Formula 1 proved to be extremely popular in China. A whopping two hundred thousand enthusiastic fans attended the racing festival earlier this year. Max Verstappen, who had a fast RB20 at his disposal in the early stages of the season, won both the sprint and the main race.
“The return of the GP of China this season was a fantastic moment for the sport,” said Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. “It’s incredible to see that the support we enjoy there continues to grow. Shanghai is an incredible city, and the circuit is a great test for our drivers. I am very pleased that we can continue our successful collaboration. I want to thank our promoter for their ongoing commitment and passion, and I look forward to returning to Shanghai in the new year.
