Formula 1 is heading towards an exciting era. A new set of regulations will come into effect in 2026. The premier class confirmed the technical regulations for two years from now in June, but the FIA has now also revealed, with photos, what the ‘refined version’ of the 2026 car will look like.

Four years after the last major changes to the regulations, in 2022, Formula 1 is once again on the eve of a significant revision to the rules. According to the FIA, the 2026 car will be smaller and even thirty kilograms lighter than the current generation of vehicles. There will also be thirty percent less downforce and a fifty-five percent reduction in drag.

In terms of aerodynamics, teams will have the opportunity to fit adjustable front and rear wings on their vehicles. However, the most significant change comes in the area of the new engines. Many teams are therefore choosing to enter into new collaborations from that season onwards, such as Red Bull with the American company Ford.

New Concept

Although the premier class still has a year to prepare for the 2026 season, the FIA has already shared images of what the 2026 car will look like. “The FIA World Motor Sport Council has approved a refined version of the 2026 FIA Formula 1 concept,” according to the official press release.

The new concept images come after the latest meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Rwanda, where the FIA announced that new regulations are being added to the Formula 1 rules. The new regulations caused quite a stir last June. “I think it’s important that there is at least enough freedom to interpret the regulations ourselves,” Max Verstappen said during the Grand Prix weekend in Canada. Whether the FIA will heed the team boss’s call with the newly announced regulations is still unclear.
