Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has revealed that the Austrian racing team will announce news about the fate of Sergio Pérez at Red Bull ‘in the coming days’. Although the Austrian does not yet reveal anything about the Mexican’s future, he does already say that the ongoing rumors about Pérez are ‘complete nonsense’.
Red Bull finished the 2024 season in third place in the constructors’ championship. However, the racing team ended the year with the world title for the drivers in their pocket. Red Bull advisor Marko reflects on his racing team’s season in his own column for Speedweek. The performances of star driver Max Verstappen are particularly praised.
“Since we have the fastest and best driver in the field in Max, it is also clear that we have to take his preferences into account during development when it comes to the driving characteristics of the car. I am sure he will stay with Red Bull Racing as long as we offer him a competitive car,” Marko dismisses rumors about Verstappen as well.
Absurd Speculations
However, Marko does not provide any clarity about the fate of Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Pérez. “We will announce news about the driver pair for next year in the coming days,” is all that Marko reveals. The 81-year-old does want to comment on what has been written in the media recently about a possible exit for Pérez. “There is a lot of speculation and amounts are being mentioned for possible transfer fees that are complete nonsense.”
Whether Pérez stays with Red Bull is still to be seen. It’s also an exciting time for Yuki Tsunoda, as the Japanese driver is a potential candidate to take over the Mexican’s seat. Marko had some kind words for Tsunoda. “Yuki Tsunoda was allowed to hit the track with the RB20 during the post-season tests and the team was satisfied with his technical feedback. In that respect, he is much better than what is being said about him.”
