Yuki Tsunoda has been racing in Formula 1 since 2021 as a driver for Red Bull’s sister team and is ready for the next step. After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Japanese driver was given a chance to prove himself, participating in the post-season test for Red Bull. According to Tsunoda, the day went excellently, and he was able to impress the Austrian racing team in at least one area.
“I’ve heard a lot about how impressed (Red Bull) was, especially with my feedback,” the Japanese driver said about his test during a Honda Racing event. “This came not only from the technicians at the track but also from the technicians providing remote support from the Red Bull factory in Milton Keynes. They told me how impressed they were with my input.”
Yuki Tsunoda, along with teammate Liam Lawson, is still a contender to replace Sergio Pérez, should the Mexican be sent home. However, the New Zealander has an edge over Tsunoda due to criticism from Red Bull regarding the Japanese driver’s technical feedback and behavior in the car.”I believe Red Bull already understands that my speed is not really an issue. Instead, they are focusing more on things like my feedback, my behavior within the team, and how I conduct myself in the car,” Yuki Tsunoda acknowledges. “They probably saw those areas as the biggest unknowns. So, I continued to provide feedback as I always have, with the aim of communicating as thoroughly and detailed as possible.”
Pub Atmosphere
Tsunoda further indicates that he already feels comfortable within the Red Bull team, although there is a slight difference with his current team, Visa RB. “Red Bull has a very energetic atmosphere, almost like being in a pub. The team delves deeper into every comment I make. They overlook nothing and ask very detailed follow-up questions to uncover even more details.”
