The Formula 1 season has come to a close. In his annual end-of-year report, driver and F1 analyst Tom Coronel assesses all the drivers in his own unique way. We start with the top 3 of the past season. Today, we focus on Max Verstappen in P1, with a score of 9.9.

Max Verstappen: 9.9

Tom Coronel: “If you can become world champion with this car, you are truly the best driver on the grid and the rightful champion. No one will dispute that, especially after the rain race in Brazil, when he drove from P17 to victory. Even the British press realized that there’s no stopping him. When Verstappen is on the entry list, the rest are just making up the numbers. You could see it in the eyes of Lando Norris in Brazil, on paper his main challenger. He seemed to think: no, this is beyond me. Even though he was the one who started the race on pole.”

“We have seen at various times this season that Max is at his best when he is provoked. Then he wants to make his point on the track, and he does, time and time again. He pushes beyond the limit without crashing, which is incredibly impressive. He makes too few mistakes for the way he drives. He does things others can’t. His judgment and intuition are simply next level. This season, Max was nearly perfect.
