The Formula 1 season has come to a close. In his annual end-of-year report, driver and F1 analyst Tom Coronel assesses all the drivers in his unique way. We start with the top 3 of the past season. Today, we focus on George Russell in P2.
George Russell: 9.0
Tom Coronel: “I see George Russell growing, especially in recent months. It’s impressive that he has been able to make a difference at Mercedes compared to seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. A new man has emerged at Mercedes. Russell wants to engage in the battle, even with Max. You can already see it, the battle has essentially already begun. This could turn into a serious duel next season. It’s going to be fireworks.”
“Especially in light of the events of the past few weeks and the dispute they have, you can see that he is not afraid. He is ready for the fight. Whether he will win that fight is another matter. Because I don’t think so. On the track, you could immediately see in the first corner in Qatar that there is only one boss, and that is Max. But Russell is going to try. My feeling is that it will end in only one way: with a headache. This is going to be a conflict on the track. That being said, I think Russell has grown as a driver. He pushes the car to its limit and can think strategically. I’m seriously looking forward to next year already.”
