How is the development of the Red Bull racing car for 2025 progressing? Advisor Helmut Marko offers a sneak peek into the successor of the RB20. He has good news for fans of Max Verstappen. “We believe that the weak points have been addressed,” the Austrian is hopeful.

Red Bull is facing a number of significant changes in 2025. Sergio Pérez has left the racing team after a disappointing season, and Liam Lawson is stepping in as Max Verstappen’s teammate. In addition, the Austrian racing team is busy developing the successor to the unpredictable RB20.

“I would say that the basic concept is ready,” Marko reveals to Sport1.de, about the progress of the RB20 successor. “The car is essentially finished and is now going into final production. At that point, you see how much weight can be saved.

Despite Max Verstappen securing his fourth world title in the RB20, the driver frequently complained about the quirks of the same car. The world champion even referred to the car as a ‘monster’ after the race weekend in Monza. “The task for the engineers was to build a car with a wider operating window,” Marko continues. “One that is not so much on the limit that it is very difficult for the drivers to keep the car under control.” The Austrian hopes that the next car can perform on all circuits, just like the MCL38 of their biggest competitor, McLaren.

‘Kangaroo’

A significant weakness of the RB20 was its inability to ride over the kerbstones. Red Bull believes that this issue has been resolved in the successor. “One of our major weaknesses was that we couldn’t fully ride over the kerbs,” Marko also says. “Max said the car jumps like a kangaroo and on certain circuits, this cost us a lot of time. We think these weaknesses have been addressed, but we will only really see this during the test in Bahrain.”
