Adrian Newey is on the brink of his new adventure with Aston Martin. The renowned British designer is set to join the British racing team from March 3rd, and anticipation is high for his arrival. However, Newey himself is quick to temper expectations. “I’m just looking forward to it, and what will be, will be,” the designer shares.

Adrian Newey’s gardening leave has come to an end, and the esteemed British designer is set to start his tenure at Aston Martin from the upcoming Monday. Last May, Newey announced his departure from Red Bull after eighteen years of loyal service. However, the Brit didn’t stay idle for long, and in September it was revealed that Aston Martin would be Newey’s new employer.

Naturally, there is eager anticipation for what Newey’s arrival will mean for the British team. However, the designer himself is not getting ahead of himself. “I’m just looking forward to it, and what will be, will be,” Newey tells the BBC F1: Back at Base podcast. “The first goal is really to get to know everyone here, understand how everyone works, and try to integrate myself with everyone.”

Changes

Newey’s arrival is not the only recent change within Aston Martin. In early January, Andy Cowell was appointed as team boss. His predecessor, Mike Krack, in turn, was given a new role focused on track performance. One thing that remains unchanged is the driver line-up, with Fernando Alonso set to start his 22nd season in Formula 1.

“I have always been willing to commit to Formula 1,” Alonso tells the BBC podcast. “F1 is a demanding sport. You have to sacrifice many things in your life to be part of this sport and this environment that requires all your dedication. But you know, if you love what you do, you can commit to it.”
