A frustrated Yuki Tsunoda caused the biggest surprise of the Australian Grand Prix qualification with his fifth place. The Japanese driver, still upset that Red Bull chose Liam Lawson over him as Max Verstappen‘s new teammate, left the Ferraris behind him in the Racing Bull in Australia. “This,” Tsunoda exclaimed, “was a magical lap.”
He didn’t say anything about it, but you can bet that Tsunoda had his own thoughts about Lawson’s early exit in Q1. The New Zealander made several mistakes and will only start in eighteenth place. However, Tsunoda didn’t gloat, he let his performance on the track speak for itself. “Finishing fifth is fantastic, my fastest lap was top-notch. It was the best lap of the weekend, but the car feels good anyway. That already gave me confidence.”
The latter also applies to the race. “Whether it’s going to rain or stay dry, we’ll see. We’ve chosen a good mix in the setup for both conditions,” Tsunoda said. “Bring on the race, you won’t hear me complaining.”
