Following the spectacular season opener in Australia, Formula 1 is heading to Asia this weekend for the Chinese Grand Prix. The Shanghai International Circuit will also host the first sprint race of the year. In Melbourne, heavy rain during the race resulted in a sensational water spectacle, with as many as six drivers having to prematurely leave the battlefield. So, what does the weather forecast for the Chinese Grand Prix look like?

In 2024, the sprint qualification in Shanghai was marked by heavy rainfall, similar to the scenes witnessed in Melbourne last week. The opening day on the Chinese asphalt was plagued by these conditions. The rest of the weekend remained dry, although the conditions were far from ideal. However, this year, visitors to the Chinese Grand Prix can look forward to a more pleasant weekend; the weather forecasts for this second Grand Prix of the season are currently favorable.

Weather Forecast for the Chinese Grand Prix

As of now, the likelihood of crashes due to poor weather conditions at the Shanghai International Circuit seems minimal. On the opening day, Friday, the first and last free practice and the subsequent sprint qualification are expected to take place under sunny conditions. According to the weather radar, the chance of precipitation is currently 0 percent. The sun is expected to shine all day over the circuit, with temperatures reaching up to 24 degrees Celsius.

This trend continues into the weekend. On Saturday, the chance of rain is virtually non-existent, and the conditions on and around the circuit remain pleasant. No cloud cover is expected, and the maximum temperature is forecasted to be 25 degrees Celsius ā€“ ideal conditions for both the sprint race and the regular qualification. Finally, it should also remain dry during the Grand Prix on Sunday. The mercury is set to rise to around 26 degrees Celsius, making it the warmest day of the weekend.
