Logan Sargeant is America’s beacon of hope, being the first American Formula 1 driver since Alexander Rossi in 2015. Unlike Rossi, Sargeant can count on a full-time seat, with Williams promising the American this as early as the end of 2022, even before he has his super license! Sargeant eventually secures this required Formula 1 license, thanks in part to a number of free training outings for Williams and securing fourth place in Formula 2.
Logan Sargeant: World Champion in Karting
On his way to first Formula 2 and now Formula 1, Sargeant has already earned his stripes. In 2015, he became the world champion in karting and subsequently performed very commendably in Formula 4 and Formula 3. The highlight is his third place in the latter class in 2020, just four points behind the eventual champion Oscar Piastri.
It is also noteworthy that the American chose to pursue a career in Europe at an early age, with the ultimate goal of Formula 1. In this respect, he differs not only from many other young American racing talents, but also from his brother Dalton, who raced in various NASCAR classes for several years.
Between Top Gun and Dallas
The Sargeants’ need for speed is not surprising, as their uncle Harry Sargeant III was a jet fighter pilot who graduated from the Top Gun school. The family also has a knack for entrepreneurship, having made billions in the oil industry and shipping – although this also led to a number of controversies, soaps, and lawsuits that would not be out of place in a show like Dallas.
Whether Sargeant now brings a lot to the table at Williams is difficult to see, but his American passport makes him attractive to the team and Formula 1. The sport is hot in America, and what better way to capitalize on this than with an American driver? A successful American driver, of course. The rest is now up to Sargeant…
