The FIA announced the sprint calendar for the 2025 season on Thursday. The upcoming Formula 1 season will feature sprint races in China, Miami, Belgium, Austin, Brazil, and Qatar. This marks the fifth year of sprint races in Formula 1.
The São Paulo Grand Prix is the only race that has been allowed to organize a sprint race every year since 2021. The Belgian Grand Prix weekend will host a sprint race for the first time since 2023 in the upcoming Formula 1 season. The sprint will also be held for the second time in Shanghai and Miami, while the Grand Prix weekends in Austin and Qatar will be hosting a sprint weekend for the third time.
“As the FIA Formula 1 World Championship celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025, the sprint race also enters its fifth year as part of the competition,” says FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem in the official press release. According to the president, the sprint format has only improved since its introduction in 2021. “The six events for 2025 again include an interesting range of circuits and will certainly offer fans a lot of extra action throughout the season.”
Sprint: The Future of Formula 1
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali agrees with Ben Sulayem. “The sprint has been a great success for Formula 1 and offers all our fans more action and races on the track. We see evidence of this in our viewing figures, the turnout of fans on Friday, and with promoters and partners.” According to Domenicali, the sprint contributes to securing the future of motorsport. “The sprint is a great example of adding new elements to our sport in a way that respects the championship. I look forward to these incredible events throughout the season.”
