Adrian Newey has officially started his new role at Aston Martin. The renowned British designer, after his gardening leave, began working with the British team on Monday, March 3. His arrival is eagerly anticipated, and Aston Martin has already paid a special tribute to Newey.
Newey has been with Red Bull since 2006 and was instrumental in the design of championship-winning cars for Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. After Verstappen’s third world title, Newey felt it was time for a new challenge and announced his departure from Red Bull in May 2024. For a long time, it was unclear what the master designer’s next step would be, until Aston Martin announced in September that Newey would be joining their team.
Aston Martin welcomed Newey on his first day with a special tribute to the top designer. Newey is known for his fondness for a traditional drafting table. Therefore, Aston Martin posted a photo of his new office before his first day of work, showcasing the famous drafting table all set up for the Brit’s arrival.
A Breath of Fresh Air
Newey’s arrival is not the only recent change within Aston Martin. Since January, former team boss Mike Krack has been replaced by his successor Andy Cowell. Additionally, the British racing team has invested in a new factory and wind tunnel. Aston Martin is ushering in a breath of fresh air with these multiple changes. The ultimate goal for the team, of course, is to compete for world titles.
