Alpine Considers Ferrari Engines Amid Potential Renault Exit from Formula 1

June 28th, 2024, 7:40 AM

Recently, it was revealed that Alpine may have to operate without Renault engines in the future. The French automotive giant is considering pulling out of the Formula 1 program, leaving Alpine to find a new supplier. Several factory teams could provide power units to the French racing team. Rumor has it that Ferrari engines are Alpine’s top choice.

It’s not yet officially confirmed whether Renault will indeed exit Formula 1. According to driver Pierre Gasly, Alpine is taking this possibility into account. The Enstone-based team hasn’t made a striking impression in recent weeks – in the quest for improved performance, a new power unit could be the solution. Alpine has several options on the table, but the team is reportedly particularly interested in Ferrari engines.

Ferrari’s Potential New Client Team and Alpine’s Possible New Driver

Currently, Ferrari supplies both Haas and Sauber. However, from 2026, Sauber will be taken over by Audi, and will consequently receive engines from the German manufacturer. This makes it plausible for the Italians to seek a new client team. Supplying parts to other Formula 1 teams has its advantages. With the departure of Aston Martin (the British team will partner with Honda from 2026), Mercedes could also be an option for Alpine.

The Advantages of a Ferrari Engine in Attracting New Drivers

A Ferrari engine also offers advantages when attracting new drivers. Under the guidance of advisor Flavio Briatore, Alpine is reportedly interested in three-time race winner Carlos Sainz. The promise of a renowned engine in the car could be a decisive factor for the Spaniard.
