The Alpine team has something to prove in the upcoming Formula 1 season. The French team had a disastrous start in 2024, but thanks to a miraculous double podium at Interlagos, they still finished in sixth place among the constructors. Driver Pierre Gasly hopes for more consistency from Alpine in 2025 and sets high expectations.
Alpine had a relatively disappointing season in 2024 – in the opening races, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly could barely keep up with the competition and the team ended up at the bottom. Meanwhile, there was turmoil behind the scenes. Eventually, the controversial Flavio Briatore was appointed to sort things out. From an advisory role, he still pulls the strings. During the summer break, Alpine also found a new team boss in Formula 2 veteran Oliver Oakes.
In the end, the French finished in sixth place in the championship, although that was mainly due to the flawless performance of Ocon and Gasly in Brazil. After a crazy rain race, they completed the podium behind race winner Max Verstappen. Without this second and third place, Alpine would have finished in eighth position in the final standings.
‘Aiming for the Top Five’
Nevertheless, Pierre Gasly is quite ambitious in the run-up to the new season. Together with his new teammate, Australian Jack Doohan, he believes they can compete for fifth place this year. “I’m aiming for the top five among the constructors,” he told reporters at the Autosport Awards. “That’s my goal, and I think it’s definitely achievable. Deep down, of course, I would like to finish even higher, but I also have to be objective and realize that it’s going to be a very exciting season. I don’t expect any major changes compared to last year.”
