Alpine’s performance in the run-up to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was far from impressive. Esteban Ocon suffered engine problems in the third practice session, and during the qualifying round, he ended up in the last place. To add to the drama, Pierre Gasly, who initially clocked the thirteenth fastest time, is now at risk of disqualification for violating technical regulations.
Alleged Violation of Technical Regulations
A representative from the FIA pointed out a potential violation by Pierre Gasly to the stewards after the qualifying round. Gasly’s car allegedly consumed more fuel than the regulations permit during the second qualifying session. Officially, the cars are only allowed to use 100 kilograms of fuel per hour – Gasly is believed to have exceeded this limit.
Potential Consequences of Violation
Violating the technical regulations often results in disqualification. Esteban Ocon, Gasly’s teammate, has been disqualified in the past for a similar offense. In 2018, while racing for the then Racing Point, he was removed from the United States Grand Prix results for consuming too much fuel.
