Has Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore changed his mind? The former Italian team boss reportedly wants to replace Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto, even before the Australian has driven a single meter as a permanent driver for the French team.

In August, Alpine announced that Jack Doohan would be promoted to a permanent seat in 2025. The Australian has been a reserve driver for the French team since 2023, and has been waiting for this opportunity for some time. However, it now seems possible that Doohan’s dream may not come true. Williams debutant Franco Colapinto is making a strong impression, and Briatore is also impressed with the Argentine.

Colapinto to Alpine?

Colapinto has been on the grid as a replacement for Logan Sargeant since the Italian Grand Prix. The Argentine has scored five points in his six race starts, and scored points during the races in Azerbaijan and the United States. Therefore, he is also making an impression on the other teams. So much so, that Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore is considering placing Colapinto alongside Pierre Gasly.

“It seems that Flavio Briatore has changed his mind and wants to steal Argentine Franco Colapinto, the discovery of this part of the season, from the competition,” claims the Italian Gazzetta dello Sport. “If the process continues, it would mean the end of the dreams of Doohan Jr., who has long served as the reserve of the French team.” Alpine has not yet responded to the rumor.
