Antonio Pérez Garibay, father of Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez, has taken aim at the ‘lying journalists’ who, according to him, are spreading false rumors about his son. He made this known on social media on Friday. After a disappointing season for Checo, there has been speculation about the future of the 34-year-old driver for over six months. It is rumored that he will be replaced in 2025.

Sergio Pérez’s father has had enough of the ongoing rumors surrounding his son. Due to Checo’s mediocre performance in 2024, especially compared to teammate Max Verstappen, his future seems uncertain. The Mexican driver often failed to advance beyond Q1 in qualifications and finished outside the points on multiple occasions. This has given many media outlets enough reason to speculate about his future, especially since it seems likely that Pérez will have to give up his seat to another driver.

For instance, De Telegraaf reported on Friday that Max Verstappen will have a new teammate in 2025. Red Bull has reportedly finally made a decision: Pérez will be fired in the run-up to the new season. Earlier, the Mexican branch of FoxSports also reported that the end is near for their beloved driver.

However, Antonio Pérez Garibay doesn’t believe any of these reports. He remains convinced that his son will one day become world champion and is fed up with the ‘lies’ about his future. “The lying journalists are already looking for me,” Papa Pérez wrote on Instagram on Friday. “But I am determined to receive public apologies from all the liars and their followers. On Monday, I will publish a list of lying journalists and media.
