In recent days, it was suggested that Guanyu Zhou, outgoing Sauber driver, would take on a reserve role at Ferrari. After all, current test and reserve driver Oliver Bearman is moving to Haas. However, according to the latest rumors, it’s not Zhou, but Arthur Leclerc – younger brother of Charles – who will be sitting on Ferrari’s reserve bench next year.
Italian publication Auto Racer reports that Arthur Leclerc will take on a reserve role at Ferrari in 2025. The 24-year-old Monegasque has been a long-time part of Scuderia’s training program. Moreover, he is still active as a development driver. He has already clocked up several miles in old Formula 1 cars from the team. Reportedly, he will also take on a free practice session this year. He is likely to step into the SF-24 during the final race weekend in Abu Dhabi.
Sauber driver Guanyu Zhou misses out in this case. The Chinese driver – who was sacrificed after three seasons in the premier class in favor of Formula 2 talent Gabriel Bortoleto – has often been linked to a move to Ferrari in recent days. Between 2014 and 2018, he was also part of the Italians’ training team. Given his experience in Formula 1, Zhou would be a safe choice for Ferrari, although Arthur Leclerc undoubtedly has closer ties with the team.
