Aston Martin’s Pursuit of Adrian Newey: A Strategic Move for Championship Ambitions

June 22nd, 2024, 10:00 AM

In recent weeks, Aston Martin has reportedly made a fervent attempt to secure Adrian Newey. The master designer from Red Bull does not yet have a contract for 2025. The ever-ambitious Lawrence Stroll is said to have recently given him a tour of Silverstone, hoping to win him over for Aston Martin. Team boss Mike Krack feels ‘flattered’ by these rumors.

It’s a well-known fact in the paddock that Aston Martin is doing everything it can to secure Adrian Newey for the future. The Silverstone-based team has been under the leadership of Lawrence Stroll for several years – the Canadian billionaire has grand plans for the team, which should be able to compete for the championship in 2026. With Honda as the exclusive engine supplier, they hope to convince Adrian Newey to commit to Aston Martin in the future.

Team Manager Responds to Rumors

Team manager Mike Krack was confronted with these rumors in Barcelona. The 52-year-old Luxembourger remains tight-lipped about Newey. “When you see how many people are linked to our team, you have to give Lawrence Stroll the necessary credits,” he responded. “It’s interesting to see where this is going. If you had said a few years ago that Adrian Newey was talking to Aston Martin, no one would have believed you. So we feel flattered.”

Unconfirmed Visit to Silverstone

However, Krack could not confirm that Newey was actually a guest in Silverstone. “Rumors are rumors,” he said mysteriously. “It’s good that so many people are talking about Aston Martin. We’ll see what comes of it.” Even the usually quirky Fernando Alonso did not want to reveal anything about a possible collaboration with Adrian Newey. When asked during a press conference how he would lure the engineer to the team, he responded curtly. “That remains between him and me.”
