The Aston Martin team appeared disheartened during the Austrian Grand Prix. While drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll failed to score points, behind-the-scenes efforts are underway to make the team competitive again. The top priority for Aston Martin is to secure the services of master designer Adrian Newey.

Team owner Lawrence Stroll, in his relentless pursuit of competitiveness, has initiated several significant changes. However, at the top of the wealthy Canadian’s wish list is the acquisition of Adrian Newey, the master designer who has delivered multiple championships for Red Bull. Newey is set to leave the Austrian team in 2025, and it is not yet known whether he will continue with a rival team. There is certainly no shortage of interest; both Ferrari and Alpine are also keen on the British aerodynamics guru.

Aston Martin: A Serious Contender for Newey

The 65-year-old Briton, Adrian Newey, recently received a tour of the Aston Martin factory in Silverstone. It has been reported that Lawrence Stroll, the owner of Aston Martin, has made him a substantial offer. This week is said to be the deadline for Newey to decide whether he wants to commit to Aston Martin.

Aston Martin’s Growing Team

In the meantime, the staff of the green racing stable has expanded significantly. The team recently strengthened its ranks with Mercedes veteran Andy Cowell, who will start as CEO in October. It was previously reported that Enrico Cardile, Technical Director at Ferrari, will also be joining the team in Silverstone. This makes Aston Martin an attractive project for Adrian Newey, although the numerous staff changes also open up interesting positions at other top teams.

Newey himself remains tight-lipped. When asked about his future plans by Sky Sport, he responded, “I am currently focusing on the RB17, Red Bull’s hypercar project. After that, I want to take a break. The clear goal is to decide what I am going to do at the end of the year. I recently took a week off and toured the south of England in an old Aston Martin DB6.” Could this be a sign of things to come? Only time will tell.
