Following the GP of Las Vegas, it was announced that American company General Motors, through its subsidiary Cadillac, will make its debut on the grid. From 2026, Formula 1 will thus have an eleventh team. On Thursday, Cadillac revealed that Graeme Lowdon, who previously led British Manor Racing, will take on the role of team boss.
59-year-old Graeme Lowdon was chairman and sporting director of Virgin Racing, later known as Marussia and Manor, between 2010 and 2015. In 2026, he will return to Formula 1 as team boss of Cadillac. The Americans received the green light from the FOM after the GP of Las Vegas, on the condition that they will participate with their own power source from 2028. The team has not yet appointed any drivers.
“I am truly honored to have been appointed team leader of this promising new team and I want to thank everyone involved for their trust in me,” Lowdon responded in an official press release. “I believe that Formula 1 is the biggest team sport in the world and a good team is all about good people. Fortunately, at Cadillac, I have only seen people with a love for racing – moreover, it has enough experience and expertise to become successful in the future.”
‘Experience with technology and management’
“Racing must always be at the core of everything we do,” the Englishman continued. “This is what I want to see in a team and I want to be part of it. I do not underestimate the task ahead of me and I have the utmost respect for the competition. While work at Cadillac continues unabated, I am already looking forward to the challenges on the racetrack.
General Motors President Expresses Enthusiasm for Collaboration
Mark Reuss, the president of General Motors, has expressed his excitement about the collaboration. “We have been able to work very well with him (Lowdon) over the past two years,” he responded. “He has a lot of racing experience, he knows how to put together a good team, and he represents the values of our Formula 1 team.”
Key Sponsor Shares Optimism
Dan Towriss of TWG Global, one of Cadillac’s main sponsors, is also enthusiastic about Graeme Lowdon. “He has advised us over the past two years on building our factories; his experience with engineering and management will serve us well,” he said.
