Carlos Sainz Faces Uncertain Future in Formula 1 Amidst Tough Contract Negotiations and Potential Team Changes

June 28th, 2024, 5:00 AM

Carlos Sainz is growing weary of the ongoing negotiations for his new contract. The Spanish driver still has several options for 2025, but he’s struggling to make a decision. He’s gained a wealth of knowledge about the transfer market and the major players in Formula 1. This period has undoubtedly been tough for Sainz, who has learned to trust no one in the paddock.

As the Austrian Grand Prix approached, Carlos Sainz was once again asked about the status of his contract negotiations. The burning question remains: where will the three-time race winner go after his final season with Ferrari? Sainz is set to be sacrificed in 2025 for Lewis Hamilton, who is finally making the long-awaited move to Maranello.

Unfortunately, Sainz still had no answers for the media in Spielberg. “I’ve learned a lot about Formula 1 in the past few months,” said the 29-year-old driver. “By talking with different teams, I’ve discovered how harsh this sport can be and how little you should trust people at their first word. I hardly trust anyone anymore – it’s such a highly political sport.” Leading up to his home race in Spain, Sainz already seemed defeated. The endless discussions and questions about his future seem to be slowly taking their toll.

Carlos Sainz Discusses His Decision-Making Process for Choosing a New Team

Carlos Sainz has revealed the considerations he makes when choosing a new employer. “I have a pretty good idea of where all the teams stand in their development,” he explained. “For the teams I could potentially join, I’ve obviously dug a little deeper. I try not to look at how they are performing right now. The focus is on the project and the feeling a particular team gives you.”

“It’s not easy,” Sainz sighed. “I’m naturally very competitive, so it’s hard not to look at who is the fastest right now. However, I know that the last race is not representative of the coming years.” According to experts, the Spanish driver has three realistic options ahead of him – Williams, Sauber, and Alpine are all reportedly interested in the Ferrari veteran.
