Carlos Sainz Set to Join Williams Alongside Alexander Albon in Upcoming Season, Team Boss Confirms

June 8th, 2024, 9:39 PM

Carlos Sainz is the ideal candidate for Williams for the upcoming season, alongside Alexander Albon, as confirmed by team boss James Vowles. Sainz will be leaving Ferrari after this season to make way for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Williams has an open spot as they part ways with Logan Sargeant, who was deemed not up to the mark.

“Carlos is our number one target,” Vowles confirms to Sky Sports in the run-up to the Canadian Grand Prix. “He’s a driver who wins races and last year, against all odds, he beat Max in Singapore with a brilliant ride, and that’s not the first time.”

Vowles then sings praises of the Spaniard, who also won a race this season, in Melbourne. “Carlos is intelligent in how he approaches things. What he did this year in Shanghai might sound negative, but it’s not. He crashed in the qualifiers, but it’s impressive when an athlete can reset themselves, go back, and then beat your teammate in that state. And he did that there. Such a thing shows how strong Carlos is as a driver. I think any team on the grid would be happy to have someone like Carlos by their side.”

At Williams, Albon recently extended his contract for several more years.
