Charles Leclerc is eager to regain some points in Spain, following a disappointing dropout during the Canadian Grand Prix that saw his rival, Max Verstappen, extend his lead in the championship. The Monegasque driver appeared to be the one to halt the three-time world champion. Despite the current point difference, Leclerc is more than ready to challenge the ‘aggressive’ Verstappen.

Max Verstappen has built a solid lead with his victory at the Canadian Grand Prix. With his 194 World Championship points, he is 56 points ahead of his main competitor, Charles Leclerc. However, Leclerc remains confident that there is still enough time in the season to catch up with the Dutch driver.

The Italian newspaper La Stampa asked Leclerc to describe Verstappen in one word. “Aggressive,” responded the Monegasque succinctly. “If he sees a gap, he dives right in.” The Monegasque is a bit more cautious about himself. “I am fast, but also intuitive,” he explained. “I rely a lot on my instincts, especially during qualifications. People have come to expect this from me.” The 26-year-old driver prefers not to make more comparisons. “In the past, I was very focused on others, but now I know that it’s better to focus on myself.”

Title Chances

Despite the difference in points, Leclerc hopes to make it difficult for Verstappen. In both championships, Ferrari naturally has a chance of winning. “We have a good chance of winning the constructors’ title,” said the Monegasque. Ferrari only needs 49 points to overtake Red Bull. With the mediocre results of Sergio Pérez, it’s not unthinkable that the Scuderia could take the win.

For Leclerc, of course, a personal victory in the drivers’ championship is what counts. “I’m going to give it my all for the drivers’ title,” he concluded. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to win. It’s my life’s goal to win the championship with Ferrari.”
