Charles Leclerc’s season has been a rollercoaster ride, from a historic victory in his home country, Monaco, to several races without scoring points. After the summer break, Leclerc hopes to bounce back and challenge rivals Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes. These top teams have repeatedly outperformed Ferrari in the first half of the season.
In an interview with The Gentleman’s Journal, Charles Leclerc looks ahead to the second half of 2024. The Monegasque driver hopes that Ferrari can turn things around starting from the upcoming Grand Prix in Zandvoort. Both Leclerc and his teammate, Carlos Sainz, have won a race this season, but the team’s performance has been lacking since the Canadian GP.
“At the moment, we are simply not where we need to be, especially in terms of performance,” admitted a candid Charles Leclerc. “However, there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes. I trust that we are heading towards a brighter future. That said, I am not satisfied with the current situation; I want a car that can win.”
‘Winning with Ferrari’
Red Bull, which has had a highly competitive car since the opening race in Bahrain, still leads the constructors’ championship. McLaren has made significant strides in performance this season and has now overtaken Ferrari in the race for the title. Drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have both won a Grand Prix. Mercedes has also stepped up, with several victories to their name.
Despite this, Charles Leclerc’s goal remains clear. “I want to become world champion with Ferrari,” he explained. “There is no other team for me, so that’s what I’m focused on. I never thought I would be here. My father always told me how slim the chances are of making it to Formula 1. I have been fortunate that Ferrari has supported me from day one.”
