Who was the most disappointing driver in the 2024 season? Former Red Bull driver David Coulthard is not afraid to answer this question, pointing to seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. “I’ve never seen this version of Lewis in Formula 1,” says the Scotsman.

Lewis Hamilton started 2024 with the announcement that he would be moving to Ferrari in 2025. Unfortunately, for the seven-time world champion, his final season with Mercedes did not go as planned. Hamilton did manage to secure two victories, one thanks to the disqualification of teammate George Russell, but he did not finish higher than seventh in the championship.

David Coulthard labels the Brit’s season as a huge disappointment. “If we disregard Logan Sargeant, I would have to say that Lewis was the biggest disappointment,” the Scotsman candidly tells Viaplay. “I know that’s controversial because he’s a seven-time world champion. He’s a winning machine, but I’ve never seen this version of Lewis in Formula 1.”

Sargeant

According to Coulthard, only Sargeant had a worse season than Hamilton. The former Red Bull driver does not count the American, however, because he was replaced by Franco Colapinto halfway through the year. “During the year, we saw Williams drop Logan Sargeant, which, with all due respect to Logan, worked out very well for them. They brought in Colapinto, and he performed well.”
