Commentator and former NASCAR and IndyCar driver Danica Patrick is under fire following new expressions of support for US President Donald Trump. Patrick has been part of the Sky Sports team, the British Formula 1 broadcaster, since 2021. The 42-year-old American has a pronounced political opinion on social media, which has led many racing fans to call for her dismissal.

After the much-discussed meeting between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last week, Danica Patrick posted several expressions of support on social media. The former driver is a big supporter of the Trump administration and used her platform to sing the president’s praises. These expressions did not sit well with many Formula 1 fans, who would rather not see her as a commentator in the sport anymore.

‘Vindictive Racist’

“I beg Sky Sports to fire this disgraceful commentator,” responded one user. “I think I speak for many fans when I say it would be good if Sky Sports ended its collaboration with Danica Patrick and instead continued to work with the many excellent women in the sport who are not vindictive racists, absolute lunatics, or terrible presenters,” another added. There is also an online petition calling for her dismissal. At the time of writing, over 40,000 signatures have been collected.

This is not the first time Danica Patrick has come under fire. In November, the American already spoke at a campaign rally for Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, which also led to outraged reactions from Formula 1 fans. In addition, she published a number of podcasts with well-known conspiracy theorists. For the time being, however, Sky Sports seems to have no plans to relieve her of her duties.
